Climate
The climate of Southern Thailand is influenced by the Southwest monsoon and Northwest monsoon winds and sea breezes, as well as depression storms.
The Phuket and Nakhorn Sri Thammarat mountain ranges block the Southwest monsoon winds and thus the South and West of the region are the rainiest parts of Thailand.
Phuket has a tropical climate that is warm the whole year round averaging temperatures of around 29C (88F). April-May and September-October are considered the hottest months.
The South has 2 seasons:
Dry Season - January to April
Rainy Season - May to December
The best time to visit Phuket is during the cool season, from November though March, when it isn't so humid, and the cool breezes keep things comfortable. The average temperature is around 24ºC to 32 ºC (75ºF to 89ºF).
The hottest time is from April through May, with temperatures ranging from 27ºC to 36ºC (80ºF to 95ºF). There are frequent short heavy thundery showers, offering welcome relief from the temperature and humidity. The Thai New Year known as Songkran, occurs on April 13th and everyone sprinkles (or throws) cool water on each other.
Locals enjoy June, July and August, since the weather is usually fine and our favorite haunts remain uncrowded. The usual pattern is brief but heavy showers, with plenty of sunshine between downpours. Everything is a little less expensive at this time of year, as well. Temperatures range between 20ºC and 33ºC (70ºF to 90ºF).
Tourist Seasons
Summer Season - May to October
High Season - November and February to April
Peak Season - December and January
During the Peak Season it is the busiest time and it may be difficult to find accommodation if you arrive without having pre-booked. It is very wise to plan ahead .

Getting From The Airport To The Hotel
Sawadirak Road is a major road that should be known to most taxi drivers. The fare from the airport to Patong should be no more than THB 500-600 for a one way journey. A 'Taxi-meter' cab is one that will turn on the taxi meter (as opposed to 'negotiating' the fare) and chances are it should be lower than the THB500-600 'negotiated' trip. Do not get into a taxi that wants to charge more than THB 500-600.
Either choice you make, the taxi should not have any other people in it or make any stops en-route other than for fuel. If it does and you find yourself parked outside a 'Travel Shop' you are not required to provide any ID/Passports/Hotel Information to anyone inside. Simply tell the driver to continue the journey or you will contact the Tourist Police (this is generally sufficient to get them motivated). The Tourist Police telephone number is: 1155.
